Maria Carvalho is a multi-genre author whose love of words has always been as fervent as her disdain for math. She took a long hiatus from creative writing after college to build her business career, marry Mr. Right, and become the mom of the best kid in the universe. When she could no longer resist the call of the pen, she resumed writing with a passion and hasn’t stopped since.
Her 2013 children’s book Hamster in Space! was lauded by Kirkus Indie Reviews for its “sharp understanding of kids’ wacky sense of humor” and remains a current indie bookstore best-seller. An array of her short stories, ranging from YA fairy tale to adult science fiction, have been published in anthologies over the past several years. Her published non-fiction includes poetry, essays, and a feature in the popular travel guide book Connecticut 169 Club.
When she’s not writing, Maria enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and working in her jungle-like garden. She is also one of approximately sixteen Connecticut natives who are, inexplicably, Miami Dolphins fans.
A reading addict, Maria plans to finish all of the books on her ‘to-read’ list by the year 2347.
