Maria Carvalho is a multigenre author whose love of words has always been as fervent as her disdain for math. She took a long hiatus from creative writing after college to build her business career, marry Mr. Right, and become a mom to the best kid in the universe. When she could no longer resist the call of the pen, she resumed writing with a passion and hasn’t stopped since.
Her 2013 children’s book Hamster in Space! was lauded by Kirkus Indie Reviews for its “sharp understanding of kids’ wacky sense of humor” and continues to be a best-seller. Maria’s short stories have been published in a wide range of collections and magazines, including science fiction tales in Under the Full Moon’s Light and Cabinet of Curiosities(Owl Hollow Press) and a mythology-inspired fairy tale in Enchanted Conversation magazine. Her published non-fiction includes a feature in the popular travel guide book Connecticut 169 Club (North Country Books). She also co-edited the anthology Falling into the Five Senses (Ree-Imagined Worlds), which features five stories—one for each of the senses—by five authors (including herself) ranging from horror to humor.
When she’s not driving herself nuts working out plot details, Maria loves spending time outdoors, including working in her jungle-like garden. She is also one of approximately sixteen Connecticut natives who are, inexplicably, Miami Dolphins fans.
A reading addict, Maria plans to finish all the books on her ‘to-read’ list by the year 2347.
