Better than Chocolate

Welcome fellow readers!

Most of my childhood, teen, and adult memories have involved getting sucked into the pages of a book. When the siren call of a book overwhelms me, I drop everything and sink into the beautiful words and only emerge when I turn the last page with a sigh of pure emotion. I love the high that a great book brings! The lingering sense of being somewhere else for a while is better than chocolate, a runner’s high, or the soreness of belly laughs. These are some of my favorite things, so that’s saying a lot.

I remember reading Cornelia Funke’s Inkheart for the first time in 2003 and feeling a distinct kinship with all the book quotes at the beginning of each chapter. Most of the referenced books were ones that I loved deeply, and reading my favorite snippets was like welcoming an old friend. For the first time, I realized that other people love reading just as much as I do. I wanted to replicate that feeling of kinship on this blog with a place to share our favorite books and talk about why we love them. Come share your favorite books of the week with me. I’ll talk about what I’ve been reading, and I would love to hear about your favorites as well. All types and genres are free to mingle and get to know each other.

  1. Oh, this is going to be a hoot! Here goes: One of my favorite contemporary series is the Longmire mystery series set in modern-day Wyoming. Stellar writing and finely crafted characters. Henry Standing Bear has the best lines.
